When I heard that Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland was visiting Dartmouth—Cole Harbour, I knew I had to take her to Canoe ’22!

I wanted her to see how incredible Lake Banook is, and to have a chance to meet the outstanding volunteers who are working so hard to make the 2022 ICF Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships an amazing event.

I wasn’t the only one bursting with pride. Folks were telling Chrystia all about how great Dartmouth is, and sharing their favourite stories about time spent at the lake. And she quickly understood why we love this place so much—she could feel the strong sense of community that we have here.

She also had a chance to meet some of the paddlers who are here competing from Ukraine. We’re so glad they’re here and competing with us at the Worlds.
