Audrey Parker’s advocacy regarding late stage consent for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) touched many hearts, including mine.
Yesterday I read some of Audrey Parker’s final posts in the House of Commons, so her words would be preserved on the record. Forever.
Before she died through MAID, she advocated for the waiving of final consent for persons at the end of life, who have been already assessed and approved to receive MAID, but who are at risk of losing decision-making capacity before it can be provided. This is also known as “Audrey’s Amendment”.
Many of you know that for some time, I have been advocating for this as well. Our Government’s Bill C-7, includes Audrey’s Amendment.
