BIG news for Dartmouth and Lake Banook!

Today, I was proud to deliver more than $500,000 in federal support through Sport Canada and ACOA to help host Canoe ’26 and deliver long-term upgrades at Lake Banook.

This funding will support this incredible international event while supporting new modular docks, improved venue-wide internet connectivity, safety equipment, and support boats that will benefit athletes and our community for years to come.

This week, athletes from around the world will take to the water at Lake Banook in Dartmouth as Canoe ’26 gets underway. It’s an exciting opportunity to showcase our community, support local businesses, and inspire the next generation of paddlers right here at home!

This event is a great example of what can be achieved when all orders of government, community organizations, and volunteers come together to support a shared vision.

In Dartmouth, people don’t ask if you paddle — they ask where you paddle.

Lake Banook has long been at the heart of our community’s identity, producing Olympians, hosting international competitions, and inspiring generations of athletes.

With Canoe ’26, we’ll once again show the world why Dartmouth is the greatest paddling community of all time!

Thank you to Canoe Kayak Canada, the Canoe ’26 Society, and the many volunteers whose hard work is making this event possible. I can’t wait to see the action on the water this week.
