Minister Lawrence MacAulay joined me in Dartmouth to formally announce that our Government is providing $840,000 to VETS Canada to help them provide support for homeless Veterans.
Veterans Emergency Transition Services Canada was founded in 2010 by Veteran Jim Lowther, who wanted to assist Veterans who were facing issues like unemployment, homelessness, and/or risk of suicide. Since then, they’ve opened three Drop-In and Support Centres, one being in Dartmouth on Ochterloney Street, to help Veterans in crisis.
Our Government believes in the good work stakeholders like VETS Canada are doing in our communities.
In Budget 2017 we introduced the Veteran and Family Well-Being Fund to assist organizations focused on improving the well-being of Veterans and their families. This January we delivered $280,000 to VETS Canada through this program, and we’re delivering $560,000 in 2019-2020.
Thank you to VETS Canada for all you do.
