I had a super tour of Evergreen House from the Dartmouth Heritage Museum Society.

Did you ever wonder who the Hawthorn was in Hawthorn Elementary school? Alexander James and his wife Harriet Hawthorn had Evergreen House constructed in 1867. A.J. Hawthorne eventually became a Provincial Court Judge and befriended folks like Joseph Howe!

Dr. Helen Creighton is easily our best known folklorist and was a beloved resident of Dartmouth. Dr. Creighton made Evergreen House her home and did much of her work from the house. Dr. Creighton would invite local folk singers to record their songs at Evergreen House and the collection is now made up of over 16,000 songs!

The folks of the Dartmouth Heritage Museum Society have decorated Evergreen House with period pieces from their vast collection. It’s incredible.

I hope you’ll consider visiting Evergreen House on Newcastle Street in Dartmouth. You can find tour information here: http://www.dartmouthheritagemuseum.ns.ca/v…/evergreen-house/
