We’re moving National Universal Pharmacare forward!!!!
We just tabled Bill C-64, the Pharmacare Act. This important legislation will guide our government’s work to deliver National Universal Pharmacare for all Canadians.
As you know, I’ve been advocating for National Universal Pharmacare for years and I’m so pumped to see this moving forward. No one should have to choose between putting food on the table or paying for the prescription drugs they need.
As a government, we’ve worked hard to set the stage for pharmacare. Good progress is being made on the national strategy for rare diseases, and we’ve established the Canadian Drug Agency to ensure our drug system is more accessible and ready for the future.
Along with working towards pharmacare, this legislation also includes working with the provinces and territories to provide universal, single-payer coverage for a number of diabetes medications and contraceptives as Phase 1.
