Join me in honouring and thanking these incredible Veterans!
Yesterday I stopped by Camp Hill Veterans’ Memorial Hospital with Minister Seamus O’Regan, MP Bernadette Jordan, MP Andy Fillmore, and MP Darrell Samson.
It was a privilege to be present while Veterans Alan Sagar of Terence Bay, and André Desrochers of Westphal received their Commendations from the Minister of Veterans Affairs.
It was an honour to have the opportunity to thank them for their service and for the important work they do in our province.
Mr. Alan Sagar is a Veteran of both the Royal Navy and the Royal Canadian Navy! Sagar is an ordained Anglican priest and served as the Primary Reserve Chaplain in the Canadian Armed Forces in Germany and the Western Army. During his service, he launched the ‘Dippers Digest” newsletter as a method of sharing diving information and news to both former and serving members. 63 years later, the newsletter is still published! Sagar was a proud member of the Scouting community and held a variety of leadership positions until 2005 when he left at the age of 80. He has proudly presided over many commemorative events and remembrance services through the Scouting community and at local schools.
My constituent, André Desrochers is a Veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy, having a successful career with the Fleet Diving Unit Atlantic. Desrochers is on the Board of Directors of the Royal Canadian Naval Association, Peregrine Branch. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 031 (Somme) and is the Treasurer and Communication & Membership Chairman of the Canadian Naval Divers Association. Through the Legion, Desrochers has been developing a program called ‘Call-a-Veteran’, which works to help house-bound Veterans through phone calls and in-person visits. A proud naval diver, he volunteered to help create the Divers Museum at the Fleet Diving Unit at CFB Shearwater.
