As you may know, my Nova Scotia Caucus colleagues and I have been working together to improve access to the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial hospital, and ensure that beds are available for the Veterans who need them the most.

Last night, Minister Seamus O’Regan announced that 25 more beds were made immediately available for allied and modern day Veterans, greatly reducing the wait-list.

We’re lucky to have Camp Hill located within our municipality, as it has provided beds and specialized care for Veterans who served in the First World War, the Second World War or the Korean War, for some time.

In 2016, we advocated for a review at Camp Hill which resulted in securing a new category of beds for allied and modern day Veterans. A vast improvement from the decade before.

Since then, my colleagues and I have been working to further expand access to Camp Hill as many allied and more recent Veterans are still on the waitlist.

Minister O’Regan’s positive statement is not the end of the story. I expect the Minister will continue discussing Camp Hill and Veteran care with the Government of Nova Scotia, to ensure that all Veteran’s long-term care needs are met.

As always, thank you to the incredible constituents of Dartmouth-Cole Harbour who wrote to me, encouraging us to continue working to improve access at Camp Hill.

As I keep saying, we must never let red tape prevent Veterans from receiving the long-term care they need and deserve. We can always do better.
