ANNOUNCEMENT:
We’re delivering nearly $2 million to support crime prevention efforts in HRM!

Alongside my colleagues, MP Shannon Miedema and MP Braedon Clark, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety, Gary Anandasangaree announced up to $1.98 million in funding to support gun and gang violence prevention here in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

We were also joined by the Mayor of Halifax and Deputy Chief Andrew Matthews of Halifax Regional Police, as this funding will help HRP and community organizations working across our municipality prevent crime.

Through legislation, we’re working to make bail stricter and more difficult to get, including in cases involving repeat and violent offenders, while better protecting victims. But today’s announcement is about preventing crime in the first place.

It’s about doing everything we can to better support young people so they can reach their full potential.

It’s about recognizing the root causes of crime and gun violence, and addressing them by investing in opportunities for children, youth and young adults that help guide them away from guns and gangs, strengthen community connections and make our communities safer.

Thank you to the incredible folks at the Alderney Gate Public Library for hosting us, and for all you do to support those most vulnerable in our community.
