A lot can happen in a year.

It was about a year ago that you put your faith in me after a very long campaign. I appreciated your support then and I appreciate it even more now.

I’m pleased that over the past year we’ve accomplished much of what we set out to do-  and we’re only getting started.

I am most proud of the Canada Child Benefit.

Compared to last year, around 300,000 fewer children will be living in poverty in 2016-17. And benefiting families are seeing an average increase in child benefits of almost $2,300 this year. That’s more money for healthier food, swimming lessons and more. I’m proud to say that the benefit helps more than 129,000 children across Nova Scotia.

We’re here to help.

Over the past year many constituents have visited our office (82 Tacoma Dr, Suite 200 Dartmouth) for assistance with federal issues. You can learn more about the services our office provides here.
We have a great team at our constituency office and they are ready to help you in any way they can!

My #BrightIdea is moving forward.

Members of Parliament had the opportunity to vote on my private member’s bill, Bill C-238 in the House of Commons and it passed! The Bill has moved forward to the committee stage. I am humbled and so proud that members from across the House (all but NINE) have been so supportive thus far. I am thankful for the feedback I’ve received from many of you and from stakeholders across the country.

#BrightIdea Bill C-238 calls on the Minister of Environment and Climate Change to work with the provincial and territorial governments, environmental groups and industry to develop and implement a national strategy to ensure mercury containing lamps are safely disposed and recycled.

We tell folks to step out of the room if they break a CFL bulb- to worry about mercury vapour in the air. But we don’t protect our land and our waterways from toxic mercury by ensuring the safe disposal of these bulbs in our landfills. Now is the time to move forward and sort out this issue. Learn about my private member’s bill here.
