NAIG 2023 – Celebrating Athletes

Love celebrating these wonderful athletes! Congratulations everyone. I’ve learned that the medals for the 2023 North American Indigenous Games were originally designed by Ella Scothorn as a youth, and then refined by Mi’kmaw artist Tayla Fern Paul. I’d love to learn even more about the Mi’kmaq symbolism—they’re beautiful.

They cheer each other on. They build each other up. It’s so good to see. I watched Team Nova Scotia play Team Newfoundland and Labrador [...]

The Prime Minister joined us for the 2023 North American Indigenous Games Canoe/Kayak kick-off ceremony on Lake Banook

So great to have the Prime Minister join us for the 2023 North American Indigenous Games Canoe/Kayak kick-off ceremony on beautiful Lake Banook in Mi'kma'ki! It was a true honour to join Mi'kmaw Chiefs for a paddle across the lake to the ceremony. And it was very special to take part in a smudging [...]
